With reference to Colonial Office letter No. 53853/38

of the 14th July, 1938, I am commanded by the Air Council to

acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State for

the Colonies, that they concur in the proposal to hold an inter-

departmental meeting to consider the possibility of negotiating

with the Chinese Government for the sale to the British

Government of the New Territories of Hong Kong or for an

extension of the present lease.
